On the night of January 16th, 2015 Rose City Antifascists and their allies met for a solidarity march in response to a call for an international day of action to support the 11 imprisoned anarchists (7 still currently in custody) entrapped by the Spanish state's violent execution of “Operation Pandora,” the recent imprisonment of Basque political activists and their lawyers, and also the increased harassment of activists here in the United States, specifically in the Pacific Northwest. That night we joined in the actions which were kicked off all over the world, including in Dublin, Bristol, Belgrade, Stockholm and elsewhere.
After assembling and striking road flares, the march of about 15 people set out marching against Friday night traffic with a large banner, flares, and a sound system while passing out informational fliers about our imprisoned Spanish anarchist comrades and state repression of anarchist political activity. We were met with warm greetings, sympathetic car horns, and raised fists from many working class people downtown. Our route took us through “Portland's living room”, Pioneer Courthouse Square (where we photobombed tourists and passed out flyers), past the Justice Center, and through streets crowded withFriday night bar goers. We even stood chanting in front of Portland tourist landmark, Voodoo Doughnut, much to the dismay of local police who kept a distance, blindsided by our sudden presence and quick street maneuvers. We would like to thank our members, allies, and those supporters who spontaneously joined our demonstration during the march for their continued international solidarity with all imprisoned comrades.
Reposted below are the addresses we passed out to those who were interested in writing letters to the Spanish anarchists currently locked up for simply using encrypted email and owning the wrong books:
