On Thursday, September 13th, a demonstration is planned in support of those resisting the repressive Grand Jury investigation throughout the Pacific Northwest.
Grand Juries are a particularly insidious tool of intimidation that the state has at its disposal to crush political dissent by attempting to turn comrades against one another and create widespread fear in dissenting communities. They are also used as fishing expeditions, where the state can ask questions broadly related to people's organizing and political associations, which then enables them to launch new investigations and widen the scope of existing investigations. Because Grand Juries are convened in secret, and witnesses are not technically on trial themselves, a person subpoenaed to appear as a witness before a Grand Jury is not allowed to have legal representation present for this questioning.
Those refusing to cooperate with the Grand Jury investigation stand a very good chance of being held in contempt of court and jailed for their silence.
Please support Grand Jury resisters by taking part in Thursday's rally in front of the Federal Court House (1000 SW 3rd Ave, at Salmon) at 12:30pm until 3:30. The Committee Against Political Repression will be giving live updates from Seattle.
Solidarity demonstrations are also planned in Seattle and Minneapolis. Information about those demos can be found here .
